About WAYA
An old folk house built in the Meiji era with a history of over 100 years. The guest house “Waya” opened at a house that used to run a textile industry in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture.
Inspired by the city of Tainan in Taiwan, the dormitory offers an atmosphere that blends the history and culture of Ashikaga.
Apart from everyday life, each visitor is free to choose their own time. It is a space where a relaxing time flows.
The meaning of “WAYA”
The “wa” of the “Waya” includes various “wa” such as the “wa” in Yukiwa-cho, Ashikaga City, where “Waya” is built, and the “wa” that represents the circle between people. In Ashikaga City, which once prospered in the textile industry, it is expressed that people are spun and connected with each other. “Waya” values the connection between people and shares a space where visitors can connect various “wa”.
ROOMS
We have two dormitory-type rooms.
Japanese old-fashioned low ceilings, plain rustic walls, and the pleasant scent of wood and tatami makes you feel nostalgic and calm.
Experience the feeling of relief and healing as if you were visiting a Japanese grandma’s house.
Room 201
Room 201, which faces the south side,
allows you to spend an open time with the sunlight piercing through the window and the pleasant breeze that shakes the curtains.
The room has an alcove, and graffiti that seems to be from that old time remains on the wall. It is a space where you can feel the atmosphere of the 100-year-old building itself.
If you look into the balcony, you may be able to meet neighbor’s cat while basking in the sun on the roof. You are lucky if you can meet it!

Room 202
Room 202 facing the north is a children’s room at that time.
It is the perfect space to get away from everyday life and calm your mind. The design of the time drawn on the sliding doors and the skylight to illuminate the kitchen part on the first floor that can be seen from the window will be something special that is rarely seen in modern times.
The sound of the shamisen that you sometimes hear from somewhere gives you peace of mind and healing. If you are wondering where you can hear the sound, ask the owner.

Ashikaga
Ashikaga
“Ashikaga School” known as the oldest school in Japan, “Bannaji” which is one of the 100 famous castles in Japan, “Orihime Shrine” which is famous as a matchmaking shrine, and Yukiwacho, Ashikaga City where the guest house is built is located within a 5-minute walk from these Ashikaga’s representative spots. The area around Yukiwa-cho is the site of a Jinya, an old Hanamachi. A tasteful cityscape with old buildings, history, and culture. When you touch the warmth created by the people who live and visit here and the circle, it makes you feel as if the time is slowly advancing.
Kitanaka-street, which is near guest house, is lined with many bars and restaurants, and is a gathering place for the smiles of many people, including locals. There are many other attractive shops such as the old-fashioned public bath that was the setting for the movie and fashionable cafes, so you will surely find your favorite spot.
Please ask the owner about the charm of the shop, which cannot be conveyed by letters alone, and the tourist spots that only locals know. I’m sure you’ll want to come visit this city and our guest house again.
